What swirl marks actually are
Almost every car carries them: fine circular scratches in the clear coat that scatter light and make paint look flat and grey. They are worst on dark colours and they come from washing: automatic car washes, dirty mitts, single-bucket technique, drying with the wrong towel.
New cars arrive with them too, from transport and dealer prep. Very few leave a dealership genuinely defect-free, which surprises people who have just spent sixty thousand dollars.
Removed, not filled
Correction removes swirls by machine polishing a microscopic amount of clear coat until the surface is level again. Not filled, not hidden. Removed. That is why it changes the colour so dramatically: light finally has a level surface to reflect off.
Filler-heavy glazes hide swirls for a few washes and then hand them back. If a quote seems very cheap for ‘correction’, that is usually what is being sold.
Stages, and why less is often right
Clear coat is finite and does not grow back. Every correction uses some, so the right approach is the least aggressive one that achieves the result, not the hardest cut available. We take depth readings and run test sections before committing.
Single stage is one polishing step. Lighter marring, well-kept or newer paint, substantial gloss lift, shortest time in the bay.
Two stage adds a cutting step then a refining step. Moderate swirls and light scratches, removes the large majority of defects. This is the usual recommendation before coating.
Three stage is for show cars, dark paint held to a high standard, or heavily neglected finishes.
One hundred percent correction is rarely the goal. Scratches through the clear coat cannot be polished out safely, and chasing them risks burning through. We will tell you what is realistically achievable on your paint before starting.

Is ceramic coating worth it?
On a car you intend to keep, on a new delivery before the first wash, or on dark paint where swirls show badly, yes. On a lease car going back soon, or paint too thin to correct safely, often not. We will tell you when a smaller package gets you most of the result.
How dark can I go on tint?
That depends on the car and the look you are after. Rayno Phantom runs from a light film you would struggle to notice through to limousine dark, and the front and the rear are usually specified separately. Factory glass already carries some tint and it combines with the film, so we hold samples against your own glass so you can see the shade on the car before anything is cut.

How long will you need my car?
A detail or a tint is usually same day. Paint correction with a ceramic coating runs longer, because the correction is slow and the coating then needs time to cure before the car gets wet.
