Most car care products are sold to anyone who wants them. Crystal Serum Ultra is not, and that is the clearest illustration of what accreditation actually means in this trade.

Gtechniq withhold it because a coating that cures to that hardness is unforgiving. Applied unevenly, or over paint that was not properly prepared, it does not simply underperform. It locks the mistake in for years and removing it is its own expensive job.

So the product goes only to installers they have trained and assessed. That is a barrier to us as much as anyone, and it is the reason it is worth something to you.

Gtechniq’s flagship. It cures in two distinct layers: a harder outer layer rated at 10H over a softer 7H base, which is the part that matters. The softer base absorbs and flexes where a single uniformly hard layer would simply crack, and the harder top takes the wash-induced marring that dulls most cars.

Gtechniq rate it for up to nine years of protection. Hardness figures in this industry come from several different scales and get quoted loosely, so treat the number as the manufacturer’s own specification rather than a universal measure. We cover the hardness-scale confusion here.

What owners notice is depth on dark paint, water that sheets rather than clings, and a car that stops collecting swirls every time it is cleaned.

It is the right answer for a car you intend to keep. A new delivery coated before its first wash, a weekend car, or dark paint where swirls show worst and correction is expensive enough that you would rather not do it twice.

It is the wrong answer for a lease car going back in eighteen months, or paint too thin to correct safely to the standard the coating deserves. Putting a nine year coating over paint you are about to hand back is spending money on the next owner.

We will say so when that is the case. There are cheaper coatings in our range and sometimes one of them is the sensible recommendation.

A coating is transparent and cures over whatever is beneath it. Crystal Serum Ultra will faithfully preserve every swirl in the paint underneath for the better part of a decade, which is the most expensive way to discover that preparation matters.

So the sequence does not change: assess, decontaminate, correct, panel-wipe to strip polishing oils, then coat. The coating is the last ten percent of the work and the smallest share of the time.
